World renowned virtual Japanese popstar, Hatsune Miku, surely could have nothing in common with American comic strip icon, lazy tabby cat, Garfield… Right?
Wrong! Hatsune Miku is no stranger to being paired with a multitude of random characters, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Cinnamonroll from the Hello Kitty series, Pokemon, and more, fans like to imagine what she’d look like next to other pop culture icons. However one fan collab has strangely remained so relevant, it has garnered it’s own merchandise.
That would be none other than the Hatsune Miku X Garfield figurine, now officially available for pre-order from YouToonz, shipping from November 1st-November 30th.
Although the collab is certainly odd, I’d say it shows the ever-growing power and control users and artists of the internet have gained and continue to hold. Years ago, throwing together a cutsey Japanese virtual singer and a lazy, newspaper strip character was never in the realm of possibility, but in this day and age, anything can become both artistically and physically real. Creations from Japan to the States have never had such common reach, and fans are the bridge between niches as they spread trends and artistic concepts like these.
Hatsune Miku and Garfield both play interesting roles in pop culture to this day as well. Hatsune Miku just finished her MikuExpo 2024 Tour across North America, where I had the amazing chance to attend MikuExpo Orlando (article coming on that later). Garfield just had his new animated film, “Garfield: The Movie” release on Memorial Weekend, and although in no means was it a great, or even good movie, both of these events show these characters are here to stay.
